I can’t say enough kind things about a wholehearted film that features music by The Rolling Stones and an eerie foretelling of the death of one of the Carradine boys.
Besides the obvious intensity between its two leads, the movie digs into mental health of the Vietnam vets without managing to fall into preacher territory, a delicate dance that not many movies in its wake managed to make possible. It’s refreshing to watch something that addresses the complications of marriage, war, and death without being hit over the head with a message.
The audience gets to decide how to feel.
